#68 Bamboo Workshop

#68 Bamboo Workshop

SDGs Action Workshop #68
Take part in harvesting bamboo and challenge yourself with “Bamboo Rice Cooking” & “Bamboo Wall Building”!
Join us for the traditional Dondo-yaki ritual to pray for health and happiness in the New Year!

In the local Ozo area, a traditional event has been held around January 15th where bamboo is cut and burned as a ceremonial practice. Bamboo has historically been utilized for building structures, crafting toys, and more. At Peace & Nature, we aim to honor this traditional wisdom while introducing innovative uses for bamboo that align with the SDGs. By addressing the overgrowth of bamboo that threatens local satoyama (woodlands), we are creating opportunities for children to learn about nature and local culture. Simultaneously, we are preserving traditional customs and working toward a sustainable future.
On January 18th, we will thin bamboo and challenge ourselves with activities like bamboo rice cooking and bamboo wall building. During this period of the Koshogatsu (Little New Year), we will also hold a Dondo-yaki ritual, praying for good health, safety, and happiness. Please feel free to bring your New Year’s decorations or last year’s amulets for the ritual. We look forward to your participation!
