On October 30, we welcomed about 90 second-year students from Yuri Gakuin High School to conduct SDGs off-campus learning, and in the morning and afternoon, five courses related to SDGs, “(1) Bamboo cutting experience / Bamboo powder making tour”・ Experience, ② Rice straw weaving experience / 菰 barrel making tour / experience, ③ Tree planting experience (undergrowth cutting and tree planting experience), ④ Field making / harvesting experience (onion seedling planting, edible bean harvesting experience), ⑤ Zazen experience ” We divided into two and conducted hands-on activities. Many of the students had their first experience with each course, and I think they came home with a lot of awareness.
(I will include a photo of each course and a group photo!)
Many people cooperated in this SDGs off-campus study. Mr. Nakaoka provided the land, Mr. Inao made the ridges, and Mr. Hokaku Alloy Mfg. Co., Ltd. gave a demonstration instruction on how to make bamboo into powder. We planted onion seedlings from Awaji Island sent by P & N members under the guidance of Kobe Meister Fujimoto. Sprinkling bamboo powder has the effect of blocking the growth of grass and has been tested. In addition, under the guidance of everyone at Kishimoto Yoshiji Shoten, we made a barrel after a valuable experience of weaving rice straw. In the tree-planting experience, we planted seedlings of Elaeagnus pungens, which is used as a sewing needle for making barrels. We had the students picked up by the people who promoted the Kitagami area, and at the top of the mountain, Kozanji, we had a zazen experience while feeling the autumn breeze. The natto provided by Aizawa Shokusan was a good souvenir for all the students.
We believe that it is important for young people who will be responsible for the future of the earth to know the issues of the region and society through on-site experience and solve them through practice. P & N values partnerships with you and hopes to enhance SDGs experiential learning for the younger generation in the future.
