Let’s plant straw mats together!
Since the Jomon period (before rice cultivation), Makomo (Zizania) has been used for food, shelter, clothing, roofing, and other purposes. The Izumo Taisha Shrine holds a straw matsuri every June, and straw mats are still used as Shimenawa rope at shrines with long histories. The use of straw mats has been attracting attention again as they have been found to be useful in purifying water quality in lakes and marshes.
Peace & Nature is reclaiming fallow fields to cultivate straw mats, an ancient Japanese traditional. Japanese folk songs and hammered dulcimer performances will be performed in the bamboo grove. We look forward to seeing you there.
The percussion instrument called “santur” originated in Persia and was introduced to the West and developed.
